David Pottruck
After graduation with honors from the Wharton School of Business, David S. Pottruck served with the Department of Health, Education & Welfare and was a senior consultant for Arthur Young & Co. He joined Citibank in 1976 as a division controller, became vice president in 1978, and three years later moved to Shearson American Express as senior vice president of consumer marketing.
Pottruck joined Charles Schwab & Co. in 1984 as executive vice president of marketing and became president in 1988. Four years later, he added the titles of CEO and of president of Charles Schwab Corporation, a holding company.
Pottruck was a high school wrestling and football star on Long Island and outstanding in both sports at the University of Pennsylvania, where he captained two Ivy League champion teams and an undefeated freshman squad. He won the gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1973 Maccabiah Games.
He holds graduate level adjunct faculty positions at four universities and serves on the advisory council of the Wharton School. He is a widely published author of articles on marketing and sales.
Pottruck is a member of the advisory board of the Fishman-Davidson Center at the Wharton School, as well as its graduate executive board. He is past co-chairman of the San Francisco Aids Foundation Leadership Dinner and past president of the board of trustees at the Seven Hills School. He also has coached in Little League.
