Kenneth Droegemueller
Success followed this longtime high school coach and Windom native wherever he went. Ken Droegemuller coached an amazing 19 Section (Region) championship teams at both Worthington (1968 to 1976) and Osseo (1977 to 1999) High Schools. In that time span his teams produced 8 All Americans, 16 individual state champions, and 62 State place winners. His two sons, Dave and Darren, were also multi State Champions for his teams at Osseo. In 34 years he amassed a career coaching record of 440 - 145 - 4 becoming one of the State's winningest coaches. Ken's storied coaching career got started from the tremendous success he enjoyed as a competitor. He wrestled at Mankato State College under the legendary coach Rummy Macias. He was an All American in i963 and 1964, as well as an All Conference wrestler and Team Captain in 1964. Upon graduation in 1965 he taught and coached Junior High and B Squad wrestling at Northfield High School from 1965 to 1967. He started his head coaching career at Worthington High School in 1968 moving on to Osseo High School in 1976 - 77. He received Minnesota Class AAA "Coach of the Year" honors in 1999. His outstanding accomplishments were rewarded with Hall of Fame Inductions to the Dave Bartelma Minnesota Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1989, Mankato State University Hall of Fame in 1992, Worthington High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994, Windom High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. He also received the distinguished 25 Year Service Award from the National Wrestling Coaches Association in '96. A number of Coach Droegemueller's wrestlers went on to compete at the Division I level in college and enjoyed success. This was just indicative of the coaching talent and motivation he shared with his athletes to help them rise to the most difficult challenges they could face, both on the wrestling mats or life itself. His teams numerous Section titles represent the longevity of his success as a coach. The memory of those many successful teams and outstanding individuals he coached will always be a part of Minnesota high school wrestling legend.
