Melvin Schuldt
Melvin Schuldt is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of Wrestling.
- Started wrestling program at Enterprise high school
- Hosted New Zealand high school All-Stars in 1969
- 1972-73 coached undefeated state championship team
Mel started his coaching career by starting the wrestling program at Enterprise high school, where he coached from 1962 until his retirement in 1993. His teams won their district title 14 times & placed at the state tournament 12 times including winning the state tournament with an undefeated team in 1972-73
No one wants to label Coach Schuldt as old-timer yet, but when it comes to Northeastern Oregon wrestling, he has to take the title. Of the teams in the 1993 district 4-2A tournament, Enterprise and Vale have the oldest programs. In 1973 Coach Schuldt was named class A wrestling coach of the year .
For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, Melvin Schuldt is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s “Lifetime Service to Wrestling” award for the class of 2005.
