Gary Head
Gary C. Head is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.

Gary completed his collegiate wrestling career at Oregon State under legendary coach, Dr. Dale Thomas. His first coaching job was in 1966, when he was named assistant coach at David Douglas High School. The next year he remained assistant coach and started Floyd Light Middle School wrestling program for 8th grade and the youth wrestling program.
1969 saw Coach Head leave the state of Oregon for the head coach position at Clark College, Vancouver, Washington but one year later he accepted the coaching position at Mt. Hood Community College; where he remained until 1984. From 1984 through 2004 he had been either head or assistant coach at three different high schools and now he is a volunteer assistant coach at Sam Barlow High School.
Coach Head has hosted numerous wrestling tournations and clinics over the years, as well as being involved with the Cultural Exchange program. He has been named OCCAA Coach of the Year, NJCAA Century Club, a member of the ACC Hall of Fame and AAAA Assistant Wrestling Coach of the Year at Sam Barlow High School.
For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, Gary C. Head is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's "Lifetime Service to Wrestling” award for the class of 2004.
