Pete Meyers

Pete Meyers grew up in Vernon, Connecticut and was involved in wrestling as an infant hanging around the wrestling room at Penney HS where his dad was the head coach. Pete began wrestling at the age of 4 when his dad Ed started the Indian Valley YMCA Wrestling Club which produced many state champions and even a few high school All-Americans. Pete continued his wrestling at Vernon Middle School and in high school at Kingswood-Oxford. Pete finished 2nd in the state 2 times and 4th once and then went on to wrestle at The College of Wooster in Ohio where he was Great Lakes Conference champion twice and also team captain. Pete began his coaching career as an assistant at Barron Collier in Naples and then the next year restarted the program at Immokalee HS and then after a few years moved to Miami and started the program at Pace HS. North Miami, Coral Park, Booker T. Washington, and South Broward are other schools that Pete coached at and Booker T is another wrestling program Pete started from scratch. Pete retired from teaching and coaching this past June but he doesn't rule out getting back into coaching. He has relocated to Orange City and keeps busy with family activities with his wife Mayerlin and young daughters Madison and Marjorie. Pete has two brothers who are head wrestling coaches. His brother Paul coaches Rocky Hill HS in CT and younger brother John is the head coach of national power Poway HS in California.
