Chuck Hoskins

Coach Charles "Chuck" Hoskins has traveled from Spain to Australia, but he always returns to his home in Northern Virginia. At Annandale HS, he lettered in football and baseball, and was a district champion/state qualifier in wrestling. A Bachelor's degree at West Virginia and a Master's at Marymount earned him a position at his high school alma mater from 1989 to 2000, teaching social studies and coaching football and wrestling. As head wrestling coach, he brought home a district championship for the Atoms, as well as two state champions. His career really took off when he moved in 2000 to open Westfield HS by launching the Bulldogs' wrestling program. After a glittering 13-year run, Coach Hoskins's teams ran his career totals to 300 dual-team victories, eight district championships, four regional championships, and several top-five state finishes, including runner-up in 2013. The flow of outstanding individuals seemed relentless to his rivals: 70 district champions, 34 regional champions, six AAA state champions with nine titles, and seven National High School All-Americans. In a feat almost unheard-of, Coach Hoskins' Bulldogs in 2010 qualified all 14 starters for the state tournament. Chuck points to a contest in that season as his most memorable. Caught in the "snow-pocalypse" of 2010, he found himself in Paulsboro, NJ, with a town full of rabid fans who came through two feet of snow to cheer on their perennial champions. It came down to the last match; the visitors won, and achieved national ranking after the victory. "It was a great feeling," he recalls, "to watch our boys step up and beat a team of that caliber in their home gym." Honors were not long in coming: Concorde Coach of the Year several times, All-Met Coach of the Year (out of over 200 coaches), Virginia Coach of the Year from the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Looking back on his career, he points with pride at the large roster of his former wrestlers who are now coaching at both youth and high school levels. Coach Hoskins stepped back five years ago, but not too much. At Westfield, he teaches AP Psychology, volunteers as a Peer Helping Mentor, and sponsors the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He coaches youth wrestling in Loudoun County, and watches daughter Grace play varsity softball for Champe HS, while son Nathaniel competes in football and baseball, and of course wrestles. Chuck is eternally grateful that his wonderful wife Barbara has always been supportive through the years of him and his love for coaching"”and the entire family enjoys travelling now.
