Bill Edmundson

Edmundson is a native of Wilson County where he attended Beddingfield High School. At Beddingfield, he was a member of the wrestling team, marching band, and track team where he qualified for the state meet in both the shot put and discus. Edmundson went to East Carolina where he majored in Education and was the only non-music major to march with the “Marching Pirates” from 1983-87. After graduating from East Carolina, he began his career at Rosewood High School in Wayne County as an Industrial Arts teacher, head middle school football coach, and assistant track coach. In 1992, Wayne County purchased wrestling mats for each of its high schools and he was asked to start a wrestling program at Rosewood. Since then, Edmundson built and led one of North Carolina’s premier wrestling programs. His teams boast 22 conference championships, four regional championships, two state tournament championships (2016, 2017), and one dual team state championship (2016). He has coached five individual state champions along with Olivia Neal, who became the first female wrestler to qualify for the North Carolina state wrestling tournament in 2008. Over a 25-year career, Edmundson has amassed an overall record of 645-193. In 2010, Edmundson was named Win Magazine’s NC Man of the Year. In 2016, the Rosewood wrestling team won the first ever state championship in any sport in school history after competing in over 100 years of athletics. Edmundson and his father also own and operate Premier Productions, INC. which has been subcontracted by PBS, Time Warner Sports Channel and Charter/Spectrum Digital on Demand to film and produce the NCHSAA wrestling state championships for over ten years.
