Remijio Chacon ("Remmie")

Fortunately for Arizona students, Remijio "Remmie" Chacon moved to Arizona after being born in Gila, New Mexico.

His coaching tenure began in 1970 at Phoenix Union High School.

Remmie was introduced to freestyle wrestling in 1978 and started his own club, which he ran for 24 years.

After an eight-year stint at Phoenix Union High School and a year coaching at Trevor Browne High School, he spent 23 years coaching at Carl Hayden High School.

It was at Carl Hayden where Remmie helped coach several state place-winners and trained 35 regional champions. His teams won four regional championships, and he coached the Arizona All-Star team and was named Coach of the Year.

He thought that he had retired in 2002, but was recruited to help rebuild a struggling program at Camelback High School, returning to coach from 2011 to 2015.
