Bobby House

A native of Smithfield, North Carolina, House wrestled at Woodbridge High School in Virginia before returning to North Carolina in 1971 as a student at Northwood High School.  Although Northwood did not offer wrestling, House still excelled in football, baseball and basketball before graduating in 1973.  House attended Catawba College, where he played football and baseball in addition to wrestling for Coach Dutch Meyer.  After graduating from Catawba, House would coach four years of football at Chatham Central High School before heading to East Davidson in 1984 to coach wrestling and football.  In 18 years at East Davidson, House’s wrestling teams won state dual team titles in 1993 and 1995. His teams were the state runner-up three times.  Also while at East Davidson, House coached his sons Doug and David to individual state titles.  In 2001, House became head wrestling coach at Ledford High School where he remained until retiring in 2011.  In his career, House had a career dual meet record of 612 wins and 129 losses, won two state dual meet titles, a combined 16 Regional titles (dual and individual), 20 conference championships and 20 conference tournament titles.  He coached 225 all-conference wrestlers, over 200 individual state qualifiers, eight state champions, 14 runner-ups, 22 third place finishers, and 28 fourth place finishers.  House was also named the North Carolina “MAT NEWS” Coach of the Year in 1993.  Beginning in 2011, House served as a volunteer assistant coach at Thomasville High School which won the team championship at the 2014 state tournament.
