Cecil Mock

Mock began wrestling in 1975 at Eastern Randolph High School where he was a sectional qualifier and recipient of the “Team Before Self” award in 1978. After graduating in 1979, Mock attended Pembroke State College wrestling for one season and then assisted Coaches Mike Olsen and PJ Smith from 1980-84. In 1980, he was recognized for outstanding service to Pembroke State wrestling. In 1983, he was recognized as “Brave of the Year” for his contributions to Pembroke State athletics. Mock began officiating in 1979, serving in both the Southeastern Officials Association and the Central Wrestling Association. He was also an NCAA official for eight years. Mock has officiated over 25 state championships (individual and dual) and was recognized for distinguished service by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association in 2006. Also a successful umpire, Mock has officiated three NCHSAA state baseball championships. In 2012, Mock received the NCSHAA distinguished service award for baseball. He also umpired professional baseball for eight years and college baseball for eight years. In 2002 and 2003, he called the American Legion World Series and the Southeast Regional American Legion Championships in 2001. In addition to officiating and umpiring, Mock has been an athletic trainer for 31 years. He was the assistant wrestling coach at Eastern Randolph from 1984-2005. There he coached teams that won state championships in 1993, 1999, and 2000 and finished as runner-up in 2001. While at Eastern Randolph, he coached numerous state champions and all-state wrestlers. He has also been an assistant football coach for over 30 years where his teams have won two state championships. Mock has also been an assistant baseball coach for 15 years with one state championship in 1998. In 2018, Mock received both the Golden Whistle Award and the Charlie Adams Distinguished Service Award. In 2021, Mock was inducted into the Eastern Randolph Athletic Hall of Fame. In 2022, he retired from education to assume the post of Assistant Commissioner over officials for the NCHSAA.
