Tim Crone OUTSTANDING AMERICAN Franklin Pierce High School 1983-1987 US Naval Academy 1987-1991 A 1987 graduate of Franklin Pierce High School, and state placer at the 1987 AA State Wrestling Championships, Tim accepted an appointment to the US Naval Academy. Crone wrestled for two years as a Midshipman at the Naval Academy. He graduated with a BS degree from the US Naval Academy, Class of 1991. Crone has been a commissioned Naval Officer the past 23 years with significant career milestones and events that include: 1993-Joint task force Haiti Assistance Group; 1994-Somolia; 1997-conferred as master instructor at the US Naval Academy; 1998-graduated with MS degree from American University; 2001-Bosnia, Kosovo; 2004-05-Operation Iraqi Freedom; 2008-graduated with MA degree from the Naval War College; 2009-2010-Anti piracy operations, commanding USS Ponce. Captain Tim Crone is currently the Program Manager for In Service Mine, Amphibious, Auxiliary, Command and Patrol Craft Ships under the SEA 21 directorate at Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters in Washington DC. On June 23, 2014, Captain Tim Crone, three officers and four enlisted sailors were presented the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the services highest valor award for non-combat actions by the Navy Secretary Ray Mabus. (Excerpt from Citation from the Secretary of the Navy) Captain Crone received the award for his leadership and actions when on September 16, 2013, a lone gunman gained entry into the NAVSEA headquarters at Washington Navy Yard and commenced a shooting rampage, killing 12 people. Captain Crone calmly moved through the workplaces alerting coworkers and directing them to seek shelter and prevented another coworker from fleeing into the path of the advancing shooter. After the shooting, Captain Crone led the others away from the danger and out of the building to safety. His courageous and prompt actions in the face of great personal risk, Captain Crone reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. Commenting in an interview after the presentation, Captain Crone stated, "A day like this is good for closure for a lot of folks. It could have been a lot worse, but we made it out of that building with minimal losses due to the heroic actions of the local police department and a lot of our family taking care of each other." Tim is married to Tricia and lives in Fairfax, Virginia, they have three sons, Ryan (21), Ethan (17) and Liam (15). He also has one granddaughter, Harper, who was born in February 2015.
