Darrel White

Darrel White Warden High School 1968-1971 Mt. Edgecumbe High School (AK) 1971-1973 Chugiak High School (AK) 1973-1982 Homer High School (AK) 1982-1989 Zillah High School 1989-2000 Clover Park High School 2000-2004 A graduate of Montesano High School, Darrel White has spent the past 46 years as a wrestling coach in Washington, Alaska, California and Oregon. In Alaska, White coached at Mt. Edgecumbe, Chugiak and Homer High Schools. During his years in Washington, White coached at Warden, Zillah and Clover Park. He has most recently has been a volunteer wrestling coach in Brownsville, Oregon, Ripon, California and Montesano, Washington. His teams won ten league titles and finished in the top-eight in the state championships eighteen times, including four state titles and four runner-up finishes. The 2000 Zillah team set a Mat Classic scoring record with 226.5 points and twelve state placers. His career record as a head coach was 327-118-6 and he coached 122 state placers including 28 state champions. White has served in many leadership roles in the sport of wrestling, including president of both the Washington (1999-2001) and Alaska (1976-1980) Wrestling Coaches Associations. He was named the 1978 Alaska Wrestling Coach of the Year; the 1993 Washington Wrestling Coach of the Year for the A/B classification, and in 1998 was honored as the Washington State Wrestling Coach of the Year. Darrel was the director of the WSWCA Hall of Fame for five years and was inducted into the Alaska Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1988. Coach White was inducted into the WSWCA Hall of Fame in 2006. His teams hosted three Cultural Exchange Teams and Darrel led the 1998 Washington team to Japan. In 2000, Coach White was named the NFHS Northwest Section Wrestling Coach of the Year. Darrel also coached football and track for over 25 years and served as a wrestling official for over 30 years. Darrel has been married to his wife Linda for 48 years and they now reside in Montesano. They have three children; Glen (40), a head coach in California; Chance (38), an assistant wrestling coach, and a daughter Glee (36). They have six grandchildren.
