Paul Greeley (Deceased: 1945-2012) LIFETIME SERVICE TO WRESTLING Spanaway Lake High School 1998-2005 Bethel High School 1977-1995 Peninsula High School 1972-1975 The late Paul Greeley wrestled for Washington State Chapter of the National Hall of Fame member, Ray Barnes (2011), at Puyallup High School. Paul served in the United States Army following graduation from high school. He then attended the University of Puget Sound where he received his Bachelor's Degree and played football for the Loggers. He completed his Master's Degree at Gonzaga University. Greeley started his wrestling coaching career as an assistant wrestling coach at Peninsula HS in 1972, and took over the program at Bethel HS as their head wrestling coach in 1977. His wrestling teams were always competitive in the South Puget Sound League and captured four South Puget Sound Leage titles. His Bethel wrestling teams finished in the top six in state three times including a runner-up finish in 1987. In 1998 Greeley moved across the district to Spanaway Lake HS and lead the Sentinels to three consecutive top four team state tournament finishes including the school's first state title in 2001, and a runner-up finish in 2003. His overall dual meet record at both schools is 227-90-3, a winning percentage over 70%. He coached 37 individual state placers and 10 state champions. Greeley retired from coaching wrestling in 2005. In recognition of his accomplishments, Greeley has been named the South Puget Sound League Coach of the Year six times, Regional Coach of the Year four times, and was selected as the "AAA" State Coach of the Year in 1987. He was inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005. Paul Greeley dedicated his life to teaching and coaching his wrestlers. There was nothing he would not do to support, build or mentor his wrestlers. Paul passed away November 21st, 2012. He is survived by his children Kristin Lynn (46), Heidi Greeley (44), Jennifer Greeley (42) and Devon Greeley (23), and three grandchildren: Jesse Greeley (22), Cody Lynn (20) and Kaylee Lynn (18).
