Scott Beattie

Scott Beattie began wrestling at age 6 for the Silver Spring Boys Club and continued at Northwood High School, wrestling at 145 lbs. where he won county and West Regional titles and finished third in the State. His high school career record was 52-5. A scholarship to the University of Maryland was cut short by a back injury his sophomore year, and after college Beattie turned his attention to coaching. He graduated from Maryland in 1984 with a BS degree in Industrial Arts Education. He spent a combined 25 years as the head coach of Einstein and Sherwood high schools in Montgomery County, where he amassed an impressive 281-101 record. During that time, Beattie coached 36 Montgomery County Wrestling Tournament Champions, 30 region champions, and 12 state champions. Among those state champs was Frank Edwards, who became an NCAA D-I All-American for the Naval Academy. Frank Edwards was inducted to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Maryland Chapter as an "Outstanding American" in 2013 In 1997, Beattie's team won both the Class 4A-3A West Regional championship and the 4A-3A State championship. That year he was named the Maryland State Wrestling Association Coach of the Year and the Washington Post All-Metro Wrestling Coach of the Year; and was given the Robert E. McNelis Award. His team also won the Montgomery County Wrestling Tournament in 2009 and numerous divisional titles. Beattie also served for 20 years as the director of the 4A-3A west regional tournament. Scott is the proud father of three children, Chad 21, Wesley 18, (3rd in 3A/4A 184 this past year), and Callie 16.
