Harvey Starbuck-Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award: Harvey graduated from Montrose High School in 1969 and went on to obtain his B.A. at Western State College in 1974. He started wrestling when he was in the third grade and finished his prep career with a 42-12 record. He began wrestling at Mesa Junior College, but his career on the mats as a competitor quickly ended because of a serious knee injury after only eight matches. He began his prep coaching career at Roaring Fork High School as the head coach from 1974-1980. From there he became the assistant wrestling coach at Olathe High School in 1981 and held the position until 1994 when he became the head coach for the Pirates. It was a position he held through 2011. During his tenure as a head coach, Olathe won the 2005 state title, also a year in which he was named the Colorado Wrestling Coach of the Year, was second in 2009, third in 2010. In 2010 he also coached in the Colorado All-state Games. His teams won nine Regional championships and 13 league titles. He coached 151 state qualifiers which included nine state individual champions and 64 place winners. His record at Olathe was 226-39 as the head coach. He has also coached Middle School football, wrestling and track for 35 years. He is quick to note that between high school and middle school he has completed 124 sports seasons in his various sports. He is now in his third year on the Colorado High School Activities Association Wrestling Committee. He is also credited with starting the "Little Buddies" wrestling program, which pairs K-third graders for a three-week mini-camp.
