Paul Anthony

Paul Anthony has been involved in wrestling for 44 years, both as competitor and coach. He was a small-town boy who did not have the advantages of youth clubs, middle-school wrestling, or even coaches with wrestling experience. In his third year of wrestling, he became the only Virginia AA State Champion in the history of Fieldale-Collinsville High School. In college, he wrestled at Elon for one year, then moved on to Virginia Tech for three years, earning varsity letters at both schools. After graduating from Virginia Tech, Paul began a coaching career that has lasted over three decades at the high school, junior college, and NCAA Division I levels. After assistant coaching stints at Fieldale-Collinsville, Virginia Tech, and Liberty University, he served as head coach for Chowan Junior College, Falls Church High School, Brookville High School, and currently for Liberty Christian Academy. He has a career record of 382-75-1 with fifteen State Champions, eight National Prep All-Americans, and three Junior College All-Americans. His 2013 Liberty Christian team won the VISAA State Tournament and placed 13th at the National Prep Championships. Paul has been happily married to his wife Sherry for 35 years. He has three children, Mathew, Daniel, and Diana, and three grandchildren, Lucas, Bailey, and Owen. Of all his great moments in wrestling, the highlights were coaching his sons and having his daughter serve as manager and scorekeeper in the greatest of all sports. The life lessons that each family member has learned from wrestling continue to guide them in their lives.
