Joshua Harris
Joshua Harris may spend a significant amount of time with basketball, but his roots are firmly planted in wrestling.
He began wrestling in the seventh grade for Bethesda Boys Club in Maryland and placed third in the high school state championships. He was a member of the University of Pennsylvania varsity wrestling program from 1982-1985, and for two years he was the starter at 118 pounds.
Harris is co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Apollo Global Management (AGM), which he co-founded in 1990. As of June 30, 2012, AGM had total assets under management of $105 billion, with a team of 616 employees located in 10 offices around the world. Prior to founding AGM in 1990, Harris was a member of the Mergers and Acquisitions Group of Drexel Burnham Lambert, Inc.
He graduated summa cum laude and Beta Gamma Sigma from Penn’s Wharton School of Business with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and received his MBA from the Harvard Business School, where he graduated as a Baker and Loeb Scholar.
He serves on the boards of directors of Apollo Global Management, LLC; Berry Plastics Group Inc.; LyondellBasell Industries; CEVA Group Plc; Momentive Performance Materials; EP Energy; and Constellium.
In October 2001, Harris and his partners purchased the Philadelphia 76ers from Comcast-Spectacor. Today, he serves as Managing Owner and as the team’s Governor on the NBA Board of Governors. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the United States Olympic Committee.
Harris is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York Investors Advisory Committee on Financial Markets, and he is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He serves as Chairman of the Department of Medicine Advisory Board for the Mount Sinai Medical Center and is on the Board of Trustees of the Mount Sinai Medical Center. He is also a member of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton Undergraduate Executive Board, and is on the Board of Trustees for the Allen-Stevenson School and Harvard Business School.
