Throughout his 25 years of service as a coach, Ben Arneson has made a significant impact on the sport of wrestling in Maryland, especially in Frederick County.

He started his coaching career as a volunteer at his alma mater, Linganore High School. After only a few years there, he was offered the head coach position at Urbana High School in 2006.

 Going to a new team as a first-year head coach into a program not known for doing well in wrestling, wasn’t going to be easy.  Ben was determined to change the culture through strong, effective leadership. Two years later, that team was County Champs, Region Champs and took 2nd place as a team at the state tournament. He continued to focus on his athletes on and off the mat to continue with the great culture they had created for the rest of his time at Urbana. He finished up there with 2 team state championships (2012 & 2013), multiple individual state champions and was the only Frederick County team to ever win the individual state tournament championship in 2013. 

In 2016, his coaching career continued at Linganore High School where he became head coach and where his children would attend school.  Ben went into Linganore with the same drive and dedication as before and within a couple years, he had wrestlers on the podium at states, and they were Dual Meet State Finalists in 2019. The program was turning around for the better. Through the rest of his career at Linganore they went on to win back-to-back State Dual Championships (2023 & 2024) and his son, Ethan, finished his career as a State Champion.

Although Ben is retired from coaching, he plans to continue his involvement with wrestling by officiating. Ben and his wife, Julie, still reside in Frederick County where they love spending time with their grown children, Shylo and her husband Jason, Payton and Ethan.
