Joe Scaletta

Joe Scaletta left teaching and coaching at St. Edward High School in 1979 to become the sales manager for Howard Ferguson's Professional Condominiums of America.

Scaletta became a partner in 1987 and upon Ferguson's death in 1989 he bought the assets of the firm and renamed the company to Scaletta Development Corporation. He continued to do condominium conversions but expanded to home building specializing in age restrict-ed 55 plus communities. Most of his communities were "Community of the Year" by the North Coast Building Association (Lorain County) and the Home Building Association of Greater Cleveland. One of his communities was voted "Community of the Year" for the State of Ohio and won many awards for being environmentally friendly. He served on the Board of the Avon Board of Education; North Coast Building Association; the Ohio Home Builders Association and Leadership Lorain County.

Scaletta was a wrestling referee for five years

Joe met his wife Leslie at the 1973 Sectional wrestling Tournament. They were married later that year and had four children. They have 11 grandchildren and the six oldest boys wrestle - three for Avon and three for Big Walnut in Galena.

In 2009 Joe was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer. Joe and Leslie established the Ohio Chapter of Reel Recovery in 2014. Reel Recovery is a national nonprofit that puts on fly fishing retreats for men with cancer.

Joe and his wife reside on Kelley's Island during the summer and Don Pedro Island in Florida during the winter.
