Richard Lowenstine wrestled at Eastern Kentucky from 1969-73, earning many awards and recognition during his time as a collegiate athlete.

A four-year varsity letterman, Lowenstine also was an Olympic Trials finalist, a two-time AAU state champion, an NCAA Division I qualifier, a team captain, an MVP winner, and was named athlete of the year.

Following his time at Eastern Kentucky, Lowenstine became an Ohio wrestling official, refereeing for 43 years. He worked a multitude of events, including 40 district tournaments and 40 sectional tournaments. He also worked 10 years as a college official.

A member of the Ohio Wrestling Officials Hall of Fame, he is frequently asked to speak nationally about the sport of wrestling. Lowenstine also authored an an interpretation of stalling, that has been recognized and implemented by several states across the country.

Lowenstine is a frequent speaker at regional events on topics not just related to wrestling, including leadership and sportsmanship.

He has also coached wrestling at Deer Park High School and Oak Hill High School.
