Joe Reasbeck

Military-1968-1998

Joe completed his tour as a Viet Nam veteran, an S-4 Officer, XO Supply Company US Marine. One of his many charges was to direct, coach and participate in the In-Service Championships in Okinawa. After his military obligation as a Marine, Joe continued his military service in both the US Army National Guard and the US Air Guard serving 30 yrs. retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1998 after 30 yrs. of service. He is a recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal.

As an Army Guard: He was an S-2 Officer (Recon), Human Relations and Equal Opportunity Officer for the 264th Engineer Group. He also completed Advanced Combat Engineer School and Command Staff and General’s College (Military Masters)

Air Guard with the 148th Fighter Interceptor Group: Base Training Officer and Base Physical Fitness Officer. Also served as On Scene Commander and Nuclear Accident Officer. He was a member of the Minn. National Pistol Team placing second in the National Finals

As an Educator

Joe taught in the Superior Schools for 33 yrs., was P.E. Dept. Head for 8 yrs., was on the Governor’s Council for Standards in Physical Education. With all the busyness, he found time to organize the city Jump Rope for Heart Disease, raising over $50,000; Hoops for Heart in the Middle School which raised over $21,000. He also reached the second level of consideration as a Teacher in Space Program (1981).

Joe was dedicated to his country, to wrestling, to Superior and Wisconsin’s Far North. He did all he could to protect and preserve wrestling in that lonely corner of Wisconsin. Unfortunately, UW Superior dropped wrestling in the early 90, s and is not likely that it will be re-instated.

 Wrestling as a Veteran and AAU Master Competitor

*Joe holds thirty national titles in each of the three wrestling styles in both Veterans and AAU Masters divisions, most recently in 2014 at the age of 69. Freestyle (1st), Greco-Roman (1st) and Folkstyle (1st) In addition, he has placed 2nd 12 times, 3rd 5 times, and 4th once. Should have ‘retired’ in 2016 he certainly would have had a grand finally, competing in the 2015 Veterans World Championships in Athens, Greece, placing 2nd in freestyle and 4th in Greco.
