Ed Wright

· Native of San Diego, CA

· 55 years of service to wrestling as a head or assistant coach at the high school level

· Competed in high school and Cal Poly College (Pomona, CA) - 1960-61

· 1965 graduate of San Diego State University - B.A. Physical Education

· Holds Lifetime Teaching Credential in the state of California

· 1 year (1962-63) - assistant coach at Riverside (CA) Poly HS (Riverside, CA)

· 1 year (1964-65) - head coach at Riverside Poly HS

· 3 years (1965-1968 )- drafted into US Army; decorated officer served with honor in South Vietnam in 86th Engineer Battalion

· 3 years (1968-71) - assistant coach at El Cajon (CA) Valley HS

· 6 years (1971-77) - head coach - San Ramon Valley HS (Danville, CA)

· 36 years (1977-2016) – assistant/GHSA community coach – following relocation to the Atlanta area he has served as an assistant coach at numerous high schools in the north metro area, including Milton, Forsyth Central, South Forsyth, St. Pius, Norcross, North Hall and West Hall

· 8 years (2016-2024) - assistant coach - Lumpkin County High School

· 5 years as a GHSA wrestling official - two with Dr. John’s group, three with Atlanta Association

· His dedication to the sport extended to sharing his knowledge through wrestling clinics in the north Atlanta area

· Ed’s coaching combines a blend of military discipline, educational excellence and an enduring passion for wrestling that continues to inspire and shape the sport and the lives he has touched

· Retired irrigation contractor

· Resides in Dawsonville, GA with wife, Sally; adult children: Stacy, Alicia, Charlotte
