Mary Perry was born in Sandpoint, Idaho, and wrestled collegiately at Bosie State University lettering during his 1979-1980 freshman year.  Mark transferred to Eastern Washington University lettering his sophomore and junior years and was also team captain for the 1981-1982 season.  Eastern Washington dropped collegiate wrestling during his senior season.  After graduation from college in 1983, Perry began a lifetime career as an educator and coach.

Coach Perry was a wrestling coach for 33 years.  He coached at the kids, junior high and high school levels, as both a head coach and assistant coach.  During 17 years as a head wrestling coach, his teams won five league titles with a dual match record of 114-51-1.  His teams won four regional titles and finished in the top-10 at state five times.  Perry has been a part of coaching 76 state placers and 15 finalists.  Perry has also been a head football coach for 18 years.  Mark recently retired as the Athletic Director at Snohomish High School.

Beyond the mat, Perry was involved in multiple aspects of the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association (WSWCA) serving as a Regional Representative, Treasurer, Cultural Exchange Director, and Academic All-State Coordinator.  In 1989 he helped implement the Academic All-State Recognition program where wrestlers are recognized for their academic success.  Coach Perry lead the Cultural Exchange team to Japan in 1988 and has hosted teams from Japan, Poland, Australia, and Russia.  He also coached Washington’s Freestyle and Greco national teams and helps run camps during the summers.  Perry is currently the 2A State Wrestling Tournament Director at Mat Classic.

In recognition of his contributions to athletics Coach Perry has been recognized with the 2000 WSWCA “Tomaras Award” and in 2001 was selected as the 4A State Wrestling Coach of the Year.  In 2002 he received the WIAA Sportsmanship Award and has been the 4A Regional Wrestling Coach of the Year three times.  In 2010 he was inducted into the WSWCA Hall of Fame.  In Football he was the 2000 Region 1 Coach of the Year, and in 1998 was the Seattle Times All-Area Football Coach of the Year and inducted into the State Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2015.  In 2006 he was named the Snohomish District Educator of the Year and was the WIAA District One Athletic Director of the year in 2023.

Coach Perry currently resides in Snohomish, Washington with his wife Tammy.  They have 3 adult children; Brad, Luke and Tanner as well as four grandchildren; Myles, Kapri, and Echo and Makai.
