Ryan Wood

September 23, 1970 - Present

Ryan Wood has been a leader "on the whistle" and off at the high school and college levels for decades, officiating dozens of state championship tournaments, while also leading and mentoring so many others as district wrestling commissioner and rules interpreter.  It is often said that few people truly understand and emulate the role of the official in wrestling, but those that do know that Ryan is an outstanding example of how it is done right.  More than a steady presence, Ryan steps up and stands out as a leader at every level, mentoring not only the officials in District I, but also across the state and region.  He performs in this role as district wrestling commissioner, as well as in his role as a key rules interpreter for the entire the state, conducting state rules clinics remotely for coaches and officials.  Ryan’s accolades as an official for 23 years are impressive, including being selected for 20 state tournaments, two Outstanding Official awards at the prestigious Rollie Lane Classic, one NJCAA regional tournament, and one NJCAA national tournament in 15 years as an official at the college level.  Also an impactful coach, Ryan’s many years as a top official were preceded by a successful 7 year run as head coach of the St. Maries High School team that included 4 district titles, 3 league titles, 22 state place winners, and twice being named the North Idaho Wrestling Coach of the Year.

“I truly believe that Ryan Wood deserves to be honored as a NWHOF inductee.  As his mentor, I can attest to his achievements, his respect in the wrestling community, and his integrity. He has truly ‘mastered his master’”
