Frank Grundler

Frank Grundler was a standout 4-year lettermen in wrestling and football at Clarion University from 1962-1966. He was a PSAC champion at 191lbs. in 1965, and a 2-time NAIA qualifier. He began his coaching career in 1968 at Ridgeway H.S. in PA. He moved to Santa Ana Valley in CA. to coach and teach 1969-71. In 1973, he started coaching at Paradise Valley H.S. in Arizona until 2000. His teams won 246 dual meet victories. He coached five High School All Americans, 16 AZ State champions, 61 state placers, 73 regional placers, and 146 tournament champions. He also coached AZUSA wrestling cultural exchange teams that competed in Poland and Japan. Coach Grundler was a no-nonsense coach who disliked losing and was vocal about it throughout his coaching career. His wrestlers will talk about Coaches dreaded LONG ROTATIONS, which prepared his wrestlers to win late in the matches. They will also tell you; we are better human beings because Coach Frank Grundler. He dedicated so much of his life to his wrestlers, from running the mountain trails on weekends, too biking with the team to California. He was respected and admired; his wrestlers knew this man was committed to getting the best out of every young man that walked into his wrestling room. What he brought to their lives, how he molded his wrestler into men, will forever be appreciated and treasured.
