Robert De Berry

Robert grew up in Tuscan where he wrestled and graduated for Tuscan High, Pima College, and U of A. His name is synonymous with teaching high level wrestling techniques to all of Arizona’s top-level athlete’s. His famous coaching career brought national championships to Eric Larkin, the Gallick brothers, and his two son’s Kory and Kyle, at Sunnyside H.S. His glorious coaching career started at Pima Community College in 1983-1985 as an Assistant Coach at Pima Community College in Tuscan, Arizona. Robert began coaching at Canyon Del Oro H.S. in 1985-86 school year as Assistant Coach and became CDO Head Coach school year 1986-87. Robert became Assistant Wrestling Coach at Sunnyside H.S. in 1992 under the tutelage of Head Wrestling Coach Richard Sanchez. Robert became Head Wrestling Coach at Sunnyside H.S. in 1993 and remained Head Coach until 2011. He built a dynasty at Sunnyside H.S. that will be hard to beat. He won a phenomenal state record, 15 state championship teams, 2 runner-up’s, 20 region titles, and over 70 individual state champions. These accomplishments led him to be chosen as 2006 National High School Coach of the Year. He is still coaching to this day at his Alma Mater Tuscan H.S. Robert DeBerry had a legendary coaching career that many coaches around the country admire. He will go down in the Arizona wrestling books as the most successful coach in Arizona history.
