Since the early 1970s, Scott Stocker has been a sports writer and columnist, giving wrestling equal coverage to more mainstream sports and increasing its exposure to readers across Colorado.

He wrote for the Rocky Mountain News from 1985 until the newspaper ceased publication in 2009.

He founded Colorado Sidelines, covering all things in high school sports, and from 1971 to 1985 wrote for the publication while working part-time as an emergency room and ICU nurse in Boulder.

Stocker founded the Fred Steinmark Award to recognize athletes who not only stand out athletically, but also academically in in their community.

Stocker, who earned a Bronze Star as a combat-zone Army nurse in Vietnam, is a member of the Colorado High School Activities Association Hall of Fame and the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports Hall of Fame.
