Joseph Carone

Joe Carone started his coaching career after he wrestled and graduated from Toledo Central Catholic. In1970, he became an assistant football and wrestling coach for three years.

When he graduated from the University of Toledo in 1973, he became an assistant football, baseball, and wrestling coach at Toledo start high school. In 1974 he went to Swanton High School and became an assistant football, baseball, and wrestling coach. In 1975, he took over as the head wrestling coach. When he took over the program, he created a philosophy that was: "To be the best we have to wrestle the best."

He took the team to Columbus to wrestle the best (Waterson), then went to Cleveland to wrestle the best (Medina), and then to wrestle the best in Northwest Ohio we went to the Perrysburg tournament. His idea was we needed to instill in our wrestlers that we can and will go the next level.

Joe coached 45 state placers and two state champions.

He had a motto he used to instill in the wrestlers and that is to "shoot for the moon to fall on the roof rather than shoot for the roof to fall on the floor."
