Upon graduation from Lehigh University with honors, Faust entered Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons and received his medical degree in 1959.

Dr. Faust was a two-time state champion with a 58-2 career record at Shamokin High School in Pennsylvania. He also wrestled for Lehigh University, where he placed in the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships four years in a row.

After joining the Naval Reserves, he decided to enlist in the Navy and soon became the medical officer of an elite Navy Seals team. Dr. Faust was stationed in Vietnam, and upon his return, he was assigned to the Naval Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland. There he performed environmental research, including experiments concerned with underwater vision.

Because of his fascination with the human eye, Faust went back to the classroom at the Naval Regional Medical Center in San Diego in 1968, acquiring another medical specialization in ophthalmology. His exceptional talents as an eye surgeon gained him the position of Chief of the Eye Department at Pensacola Aerospace Regional Medical Hospital until his retirement from military service as a commander in 1971.

Dr. Faust also developed one of the major components of modern cataract surgery used by most eye surgeons throughout the world. Dr. Faust's achievements include; being awarded the "Physician's Recognition Award" on numerous occasions, named in Who's Who Among Outstanding Americans for 1995-96 and induction into the Pennsylvania Coaches Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1997.

Faust has written several articles for publications in his field. While in the Navy, he was promoted from Lieutenant to Commander of the Medical Corps.
