Dr. Michael Deehan
There’s a doctor in the house, and he has been inducted into the New Jersey Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as an Outstanding American.
Dr. Michael Deehan, the primary physician for the New Jersey State High School Wrestling Championships since 1996, was a four-year wrestler at Princeton University after a successful career at Seton Hall Prep. He also coached at Seton Hall University for one season.
He was a three-time District 13 champion, a two-time Region 3 champion and three-time finalist, and reached the state semi-finals in 1979.
After achieving a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Princeton University, he received his doctorate from University of Medicine and Dentistry, New Jersey, where he also completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in orthopedic surgery.
An orthopedic surgeon, he is the school physician at Hackettstown and Mt. Olive high schools and an orthopedic consultant at Blair Academy and Seton Hall Prep.
Deehan is a diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners, and a board member of the NJ Orthopedic Society. He is also a town health officer in Mansfield Township, an orthopedic surgeon in private practice in Hackettstown, was an assistant team physician at Kean University for a couple of years.
In 1994 he was inducted into the Seton Hall Prep Hall of Fame, and has also been a recipient of Residents’ Award for outstanding paper presentation at the state Orthopedic Society’s annual meeting.
A medical staff secretary/treasurer at Hackettstown Community Hospital, his hospital affiliations include Hackettstown Medical Center, Morristown Memorial Hospital, and Emmaus Surgical Center in Hackettstown.
A doctor of multiple sports at Blair, Mt. Olive and Hackettstown, wrestlers throughout the state come to his office for evaluations and treatment of wrestling injuries.
Residing in Long Valley, he and his wife Catherine are parents have four children: Elizabeth, Michael, Matthew and Emily.
