Art Martori
As founder and Executive Director of the Sunkist Kids, Art Martori has been a profound contributor to the sport of wrestling in every facet. The impact he has had on members of the sport as well as the sport itself is immeasurable.
As a competitor at Arizona State University in 1965, he won the Western Athletic Conference title. He also won the Arizona AAU Freestyle and Greco-Roman State championships twice while wrestling for the Phoenix Wristlock Club.
Serving as the President of USA Wrestling from 1992-94, Martori made great strides to promote growth of the organization. While serving as president, USA Wrestling won its first World team title in freestyle wrestling.
He has also served on USA Wrestling's Board of Directors for many years, as well as being the Chairman of the USA Wrestling's Coach Selection Committee, and a member of numerous other committees.
For his contributions to international wrestling, Martori was awarded the Gold Star by FILA, the International Governing Body of wrestling.
The Sunkist Kids were formed in 1976 and have become one of his greatest accomplishments. They have won every USA Wrestling national Freestyle team title from 1983 to the present. The Sunkist Kids have also won team titles in Greco-Roman and women's wrestling on the senior level, as well as numerous age-group national team titles.
Martori has mentored and played a large role in the career of many of the best wrestlers in the world who have competed for the Sunkist Kids. Many of these have gone on to become Olympic and World champions.
For his dedication and contributions to the sport of wrestling, Art Martori is honored as a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
