- Attended International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Apprentice School (1976-80)
- 37 years as a Georgia High School Association official including 3 years as an NCAA referee
- Began officiating with the Rome Area Wrestling Officials Association the fall following his high school graduation; called his first area tournament that season (1977)
- GHSA wrestling official for 37 years in period from 1976-present; absent for some years in early 1980’s; still active with Rome Area WOA - has served as officer for 37 years
- Officiated Traditional area tournaments each year for 37 years - head official numerous times
- Officiated Area Dual Tournaments each year since it began
- Officiated Sectional Tournaments each year since it began - head official numerous times
- Officiated State Duals - 6X; Officiated GHSA traditional tournament - 32X
- Officiated numerous USA Wrestling tournaments including Virginia Beach National Duals (4X), USA Wrestling, USA Kid’s State, USA Kid’s State Duals
- NCAA level official - 3 years
- Owner of Backyard Creations of North Georgia - Swimming pool builder
- Wife, Kim; adult children; Heath, Haggan, Reagan Matthews (deceased)
