Patrick Burns
December 13, 1966 - Present
Patrick has been involved in wrestling in New Milford for more than 30 years. He has been the heart and soul and face of New Milford Wrestling. He wrestled for New Milford High School from 1981-85. In 1989, he was certified as a USA Wrestling Gold coach and formed the New Milford Freestyle and Greco Roman Wrestling Club.
Starting in 1990, he was an assistant coach with New Milford High School for 12 years before taking over as head coach in 2002. In four years as the head coach, his teams were 70-11-1 and won two Southwest Conference titles. The Green Wave finished second in Class LL and the State Open behind Danbury in 2006. Pat was the 1991 and 1992 SWC Coach of the Year and the 2002 Class L CIAC Assistant Coach of the year.
In 1998, he helped create the New Milford Wrestling Association Elementary and Middle School wrestling programs. He donated his time coaching, refereeing and running the annual fundraising golf tournament. Pat also established the Grizzly Wrestling Camp in Winsted and ran it for 11 years. Every summer he ran a two-month wrestling camp at the high school.
A former member of the CIAC wrestling committee, Patrick has been an official since 2011. As an official, he has been selected to work at the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) national championships three times, the National Prep School Championships twice and NuWay Nationals twice.
Pat and Gina live in New Milford.
