Walter Edge
Walter Edge’s association with wrestling could easily be a movie. He started his career of teaching in 1966 and the athletic director told him they wanted to start a wrestling program. The only exposure Walter had was a 6 weeks activity class at ASU. So, with books and videos he began wrestling at Bisbee High School. He was head coach from 1966-81, left and came back as assistant coach for 5 years, left and currently is back again as a volunteer for the current coach who is one of Walters past wrestlers who is now “paying it back”. During his 33 years of service Walters teams captured several league championships and undefeated seasons as well as many State Placers and Champions. He coached all stars in cultural exchanges with Japan and was A-South Coach of the Year 3 times. To nobody’s surprise, Walter also devoted time in helping Douglas High School implement their wrestling program.
