Dan Mashek wrestled at West Waterloo High School for hall of fame coach Bob Siddens and at the University of Northern Iowa for Chuck Patten, but earned his greatest fame as an Iowa high school coach.

In fact, retiring this past season with a record of 519-105-5, he has the most dual meet wins of any coach in Iowa history.

He started the program at Don Bosco of Gilbertville in 1970 and quickly made the Dons a perennial power.

While there, he claimed four traditional team titles and one dual team title. He saw 20 of his wrestlers win a total of 24 individual state titles.

He began coaching at North Scott in 2000 and compiled a record of 93-30.

He currently lives in Eldridge.
