Dale Brand
April 10, 1914 - July 31, 2004
Dale Brand is on the list of the top coaches in the long history of Iowa high school wrestling.
He was the head wrestling coach at Clarion High School from 1940-78 and compiled a career record of 251-78-5.
Brand coached 24 state champions, an Olympic champion, two NCAA champions, eight All-Americans and nine Big Eight Conference champions.
His most famous wrestler was his cousin, Glen Brand. A Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Glen won a gold medal at the 1948 London Olympics after being an NCAA champion and three-time All-American for Iowa State. Glen is the namesake of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum's Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa.
A native of the Fort Dodge area, Dale Brand was a noted wrestler in his own right.
An NCAA champion and two-time finalist for Cornell College, he was an alternate for the 1936 Berlin Olympics wrestling team.
Brand began his wrestling career at Fort Dodge High School and was a state champion in 1934 after a runner-up finish the previous year.
He was inducted into the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1978.
