As a teenage Greek immigrant, Jim Londos had his face rubbed in the mat at the San Francisco YMCA. But he persisted to become the most successful and important wrestler of the first half of the 20th century. When he won the world championship in 1929-30, he shook the sport out of its doldrums and became a hero to working class fans. He wrestled for 45 years, blending ring mastery and flair in a way that earned him acclaim as "The Golden Greek."
