UWW Bureau Re-Elects Distinguished Member Dziedzic

BUDAPEST, Hungary - Stan Dziedzic, a Distinguished Member inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1996, has been re-elected to the United World Wrestling Bureau, the governing council for international amateur wrestling.
Dziedzic has served on the UWW Bureau since his first election victory in 2006.
Dziedzic was appointed as a UWW Vice President of FILA in 2010 and has served in that position since then. Because of his re-election to the Bureau, he will remain a Vice President. He also serves on UWW’s Executive Committee.
Dziedzic currently chairs the UWW Hall of Fame and Historical Heritage Commission and has been instrumental in the development and expansion of the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Dziedzic was one of four who were re-elected to the Bureau, along with Vice President Natalia Yarygin of Russia, plus Daulet Turlakanov of Kazakhstan and Zamel Sayyaf Al Shahrani of Qatar. Newly elected UWW Bureau members were Pedro Silva of Portugal and Peter Bacsa of Hungary. Their terms will run through 2024.
Also elected to replace the departed Rasoul Khadem of Iran, was Zhang Xia of China, who will serve through 2022.
Dziedzic served as the UWW technical delegate for the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, helping oversee the competition on behalf of the international federation. The event has been a great success, with large crowds and outstanding action throughout the nine days of wrestling.
Also serving on the UWW Bureau is Olympic and four-time World champion Jordan Burroughs of the United States, who chairs the UWW Athletes Commission.
Prior to his election to the UWW Bureau, Dziedzic served two terms as USA Wrestling's president. In his four years as USA Wrestling president, the organization strengthened its position within international wrestling and assisted in promoting wrestling within the Olympic community.
Dziedzic won a bronze medal at the 1976 Olympic Games at 163 pounds in freestyle wrestling in Montreal, Canada. He was a World champion in 1977 in Lausanne, Switzerland. He placed fifth in the 1974 World Championships. He won two World Cup titles and four national freestyle titles during his career.
Dziedzic was a 1971 NCAA champion for Slippery Rock Univ. and also won three small college national titles there. He is a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and has been inducted into the Div. II Wrestling Hall of Fame.
He served as national freestyle coach for the United States in the early 1980's and was team manager of the 1984 U.S. Olympic team.
He served as an executive with Lehman Bros. in Atlanta, Georgia, before retiring.
