USA Wrestling's "Give Wrestling A Shot Week" Is January 15-21
USA Wrestling is launching Give Wrestling A Shot Week January 15-21, 2018.
During this promotion, USA Wrestling will be providing memberships for the week to allow for first time participants to experience wrestling without the requirement of USA Wrestling membership, thus making it easier for clubs to recruit new wrestlers.
All clubs interested in participating can sign up at www.givewrestlingashot.com. This is also where parents who would like for their child(ren) to Give Wrestling A Shot will be able to sign up for participation.
“Club leaders continually ask how USA Wrestling can help them have kids come and try Wrestling, so this is a way in which we are doing that,” said Tony Black, USA Wrestling’s Director of State Services. “With a campaign that is bigger than what one club can do individually, we hope that there’s a buzz about it and that parents of non-wrestlers hear about it and bring their kids.”
2008 Olympian and two-time NCAA champion Ben Askren, who currently runs the successful Askren Wrestling Academy in Wisconsin, is spearheading the effort in his home state and has been integral in developing the practice plan for participating clubs. With a massive social media presence and following, Askren has already begun sharing information with followers, coaches and fans.
Participating clubs will be provided with the aforementioned practice plan, promotional material, and a suggested practice plan to ensure new wrestlers continue coming back.
All participating clubs, coaches and wrestlers are asked to tag @USAWrestling in all social media posts.
Give Wrestling A Shot Week, which was communicated to attendees of USA Wrestling’s State Leaders Summit in August 2017, is the second of three week-long promotions of USA Wrestling during the 2017-18 membership season. The first week was the Back to the Mat campaign in November, and March 12-18, 2018 will be the second annual Wrestling Week Across America.
