Honors Weekend 2018 in the Books!

The NWHOF Florida Chapter hosted the 2018 Honors Weekend.  The event was held on August 10 and 11 at the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Disney Springs Resort Area. The two day event included a Friday night social and T-shirt signing, the Saturday Brunch and the Inductee banquet on Saturday evening. Thank you for joining as we honored the class of 2018.

The Hall inducted six members for their Lifetime Service to Wrestling, one member as an Outstanding American and posthumously honored Coach Craig Thomas with the John & Helen Vaughan Award. Coach Thomas's Miami Norland squad won the inaugural FHSAA State Championship in 1965.

2018 Honorees and guests checked into the Wyndham Friday to get ready for the evening social.  Attendance was strong as family and friends came from California, Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina and all over Florida to support the inductees.  The class of 2018 was introduced and then participated in the traditional T-Shirt Signing Ceremony.  It got even better on Saturday with the brunch / roast, and the induction banquet. We were honored by the attendance of Kyle Klingman, Director of the Dan Gable Museum, and his assistant Troy Peterson.

The Testimonial Brunch is a million laughs and of course a million tears.  The speakers are often more honored to speak on behalf of the honoree.  The guests left the event filled with memories for a life time.

Saturday's banquet started with alumni marching into the room and lining the stage to greet the inductees. Guests shared in the moment when each candidate was presented a NWHOF plaque followed by 8 inspirational speeches.  Each new member received a "Green Jacket" followed by the closing remarks of Florida chapter Director, Gary Townsend.  We hope to see you next year.
