Larry Brown
1968-1973 Montesano High School 1973-1986 and 1988-1995 Fife High School Larry Brown attended Curtis High School graduating in 1964 where he was coached by Raymond Payne. After high school Larry wrestled at Olympic College for two years then attended Central Washington University graduating in 1968 and was coached by Hall of Fame Coach Eric Beardsley. Brown placed 2nd and 3rd in the Washington State Community College Championships, Evergreen Conference 1967 and 1968, and was a College All-American placing 3rd at the NAIA National Wrestling Championships his senior year. Larry began his coaching and teaching career at Montesano High School where he coached for 5 seasons. He then moved to Fife High School where he coached an additional 20 years. Brown has coached many league and regional champions and a total of 34 state place winners including 9 state champions. Coach Brown's teams earned 4 league and 3 regional championships and placed in the top ten at the Washington State Wrestling Tournament five times including a sixth, three fourths and a third place in 1995. Over his 25 year high school coaching career he had a total dual meet record of 248-114-8. He served as coach/trainer for the 1985 Washington Cultural Exchange Team to New Zealand and managed and coached at summer wrestling camps in King and Pierce County and officiated at many freestyle tournaments. Coach Brown established Fife High School as one of the wrestling powers in Washington State. He has been recognized by his peers as League Coach of the Year seven times and was the Regional Coach of the Year three times. He received the Puget Sound Coach of the year honors in 1993. Brown was inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1995. Following his high school coaching career he turned his efforts to athletic training where he developed a cadre of student trainers at Fife High School which became recognized as one of the finest programs in the state. Larry now serves on the Washington State Department of Health Athletic Training Advisory Committee and the Cascade Conference NAIA Advisory Board for Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. Brown is currently the Head Athletic Trainer at Northwest University. Larry and his wife Norma O'Malley reside in Federal Way, Washington.
