Dr. Eric Hughes

Eric Hughes believes wrestling is the toughest sport on any level. Wrestling builds character, changes attitudes but most of all, it humbles you. Dr. Eric Hughes earned a Doctorate in Education Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in February 2018. Dr. Hughes is exemplary in the athletic community, lettering in high school wrestling, football, weightlifting, and track all three years. He wrestled for South Miami Junior High School, South Miami Senior High School, Miami Dade North College, and Allegheny College. Excelling in his athletic career with a strong national reputation, Dr. Eric Hughes was an elite Power Lifter through the 80s and 90s. He holds several world records in various weight classes. Dr. Hughes has served for thirty-eight years as a coach in Miami-Dade and Broward County Public Schools wrestling programs. His service includes Assistant Head Coach at South Miami Senior High School, Head Coach of the South Miami Junior High School, Cutler Ridge Junior High School, Westminster High School, Everglades High School, and Inaugural Head Coach for Bay Point Schools in alternative education program. He amassed a career record of 505 wins against 65 losses. Dr. Hughes coached twenty-two FHSAA State qualifiers with eight State place winners. Eric Hughes is the first inductee to the Wrestling Hall of Fame with a doctorate degree.
