Ken Taylor

Ken Taylor has been the recipient of several state and national awards. Coach Taylor has certainly been at the top of the list for all of these awards. Coach Taylor is presently the head wrestling coach at Rocky Mountain High School in Ft Collins, Colorado. Taylor has been involved with coaching, as well a sports officiating, since he graduated from Adams State College in 1972. When it came to wrestling in college, Ken Taylor certainly was able to climb to the top of the list. He was the 1972 NAIA National Runner-up at 150 pounds . He served as team captain for the 1972 Adams State National Wrestling Championship team. Upon graduation from Adams State in 1972 he became the head coach at St. Mary's High School in New England, North Dakota. In 1974 he returned to Colorado where he was a Graduate Assistant for Colorado State University. In 1975 Ken became the head wrestling coach at Poudre High School in Fort Collins. That position was held from 1975-1990. In 2001, Taylor was named the head coach at Rocky Mountain High School in Ft. Collins. Taylor's teams placed among the top ten, fourteen times and finished second at the Colorado State Wrestling Tournament in 1981 and 1986. During those years his squads won eight Regional titles and came away with more than 300 victories in dual meets. His squads were able to crown 16 State Champions, and placed 68 state-bound wrestlers. Several of his wrestlers went on to compete at the college level and some have become coaches. Ken was also a State Freestyle Coach, All-State Games Coach and represented Colorado in the Scholastic National Duals. When it came to officiating, Ken was able to blow his whistle on the mats for 24 years in high school and college, twice at the NCAA, Division II Nationals. He definitely has been successful as a Colorado coach earning 5A Coach of the Year honors in 1981, 2005 and 2010. In 2013 he was honored with the Sonny Lubick Coach of Character for the city of Fort Collins.
